Kitchen Remodeling: The Complete Cost & Planning Guide
A kitchen remodel is one of the smartest investments you can make in your home — but it is also one of the most complex. This guide walks you through planning, budgeting, and what to expect from a professional renovation in Connecticut.
What Drives the Cost
- Size and layout — moving walls, plumbing, or gas lines adds cost but can transform how the kitchen works
- Cabinetry — typically the single largest line item, from refacing to fully custom builds
- Countertops — quartz, granite, and marble vary widely in price and durability
- Appliances — builder-grade versus professional-grade makes a major difference
- Labor and trades — plumbing, electrical, and tile work are skilled trades, not DIY shortcuts
How to Plan Your Remodel
- Define your goals — more storage, better flow, or a full modern update?
- Set a realistic budget — include a 10–15% contingency for surprises behind the walls
- Choose a layout — the work triangle of sink, stove, and refrigerator still matters
- Select materials early — lead times on cabinets and counters can be weeks
- Hire one accountable contractor — a full-service team avoids scheduling gaps between trades
